Candidate for Sheboygan County Board District 20

CONVERSATIONS WITH THE CANDIDATE

Why I am running…

My wife and I bought her parent’s house in Kohler in 2018, we spent a few years renovating it and permanently relocated to Sheboygan County in 2022.  These past few years have really introduced us to the beauty of Sheboygan County.  From the breathtaking views of Lake Michigan, an excellent food scene, a variety of outdoor recreation (including beaches), friendly people, a lively arts scene and so much more.  Sheboygan County is truly a magical place, not only to visit but to live. It is an affordable place to live with Sheboygan County’s cost of living well below average.

So, I would like to use my 24 years in local government to contribute to the effective and positive running of Sheboygan County for all our residents, so it continues to rank not only as a great place to visit but also to live.  In the past, I have helped to successfully educate state legislators to continue a very positive grant program that has benefited dozens of local governments each year.  And I have helped to successfully educate state legislators to avoid passing bills that would negatively impact all local governments in the state.  I have traveled to the state capital, and to Washington D.C, to identify and obtain grant funding – to improve local government programs and facilities without raising local property taxes.

Lastly, I believe that we should keep partisan politics out of our local government.  In local government, all parties involved – elected officials and professional staff – should always be “pulling in the same direction” for the benefit of our residents.  In all my years in local government, only two board votes were “split votes”; and those two votes were personal preferences – none involved partisan politics.  All the rest (literally hundreds of votes) were unanimous.  Imagine how positive things would be if our government in Washington D.C. worked that effectively.  Let’s not let our local government devolve into the mess that our federal government has become – thanks to partisan politics.
